I live in Johannesburg and exhibit art at “Artists under the Sun” at the Zoo Lake, as well as “Art in the Garden” at the Walter Sizulu Botanical Gardens in Roodepoort.

I always had an interest in art. Until about 3 years before my retirement I was encouraged by a daughter who was attending art classes, in August, 2006, I enrolled for classes at Colourit Art Studio. Under the guidance of the late Hester van der Berg I learned to paint, using acrylic paints. I have attended a number of workshops by established artists such as Derek van Rensburg, Brian Rolfes, Paul Bothas, Mark Poisson and John Adams. About five years ago I switched to oil paints and found it to be far more rewarding and versatile medium. I now only use oil paints.

My preference for art is the natural environment i.e. landscapes, seascapes. bushveld and wildlife. I prefer to paint scenes from places I have visited and to work wherever possible from my own photos. Together with my wife we try to see as much of South Africa as possible and have toured the country on many occasions building up ideas on scenes to paint.

Subject Matter, Style, Philosophy
Landscapes - Seascapes - Wild life & Bushveld scenes

I started my working career as a draughtsman and later qualified as a Structural Engineer. Working with building drawings, and also seeing many Architects sketches and perspective drawings provided me with a good insight into proportion, scale and perspective. This has been extremely valuable in the art field.
