I was born and brought up on a farm in Malawi and went to school in Rhodesia. I did my nursing training in Durban, then lived in Cape Town after I got married , where I lived for the last 30 years, other than 5 years in Indonesia.
I have always been humbled by the vast canvas and infinite palette that Mother Nature offers us, and it is this together with the fragility and expression of humankind, that form the basis of my subject material. Although I have had no formal tuition, I have always been involved in artistic endeavours, and concentrated on painting 13 years ago. Credit and thanks are due to my mentors, Leonie Turck, who taught me watercolours and Tim Johnson who taught me oils. Both of them are well-known Cape Town artists, and in 2010 when Leonie retired, I took over her art school, a position I held and enjoyed until I moving to Gauteng at the end of 2012. While in Cape Town I participated in many exhibitions, undertook a variety of commissions , and my paintings are found throughout Southern Africa, London, France, China and Australia.
I paint primarily for the pleasure and the passion, concentrating on watercolours as it is my first love. I love the unpredictability and the transparency of the colours and medium, always resulting in a certain element of surprise. The building up of layers, creating depth and texture is always an exciting process, and even when the result is disappointing, it is after all only a piece of paper.
I moved up to Kliprivier, Gauteng the beginning of 2013, excited to start a new life, having just got married again. I was accepted to join the Artists under the Sun group and look forward to the journey ahead
