|BiographyBorn in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 26 July 1952 into a family of musicians. She had art lessons during High School years and went on to do a B.A. degree majoring in Fine Art and history of Art at University of the Witwatersrand (1971 – 1973) and thereafter a Higher Teaching diploma at the Johannesburg College of Education (1974). She joined the Watercolor Society of South Africa (WSSA) in 2005 and studied watercolors with Susan Orpen. She won a Highly commended award for a painting on one of the New Signatures exhibitions and attained Associateship of the WSSA in 2007. She served on the committee of the WSSA for 4 years and was vice-chairman for two of those years.
She joined the Miniature art Society of South Africa (MASSA) in 2007.
I have lived in various places around Southern Africa during my married life including Oranjemund in Namibia, Kimberley in the Northern Cape, Jwaneng in Botswana, Bulawayo in Zimbabwe, Dundee in Natal and Johannesburg.
I exhibit monthly at Zoo Lake in Johannesburg with Artists Under the Sun.
I am a versatile artist working in different mediums; watercolors, oils, acrylics, pastels, charcoal, ink and pencil. Covering a wide spectrum of subject matter.
She teaches adult art, in all mediums, ( also miniatures), at various centres , arranges painting holidays and does occasional workshops.She has works in homes and offices around the country as well as in U.K., Scotland, France, Netherlands, Germany, U.S.A., Japan, Jordan, China, Malaysia and New Zealand. Subject Matter, Style, PhilosophyWildlife and other animals, landscapes and seascapes, city/town scenes, flowers, figures, portraits, still-life and abstracts. Being a Traditional realist She paints whatever inspires he at the time, and enjoy the challenge of different subject matter and mediums, as well as exploring different concepts.
AchievementsLeonora achieved Associate status of the WSSA in 2007 (Watercolour Society of South Africa) and has had miniature paintings accepted for the Worldwide Exhibition of Miniatures in Burnie, Tazmania in March 2008, Moscow in 2012, and in South Africa in 2016 . She has won several awards, including first and second prizes at various exhibitions in the USA and in Bangladesh for her miniatures, and has been made a member of MPSGS in the USA and HS( Hilliard Society) in the U.K.
Leonora was one of 36 finalists ( out of 2600 entries) in the 2017 Hahnemuhle Calendar competition.
She has works in Zimbabwe, Australia, the USA, England, Scotland, France, Holland, Germany, China, Japan, Jordan and Malaysia and has undertaken numerous commissions.
